Mind the wind
A favourite spot for wind-surfers, gales can certainly blow in Fuerteventura. However, as the majority of wind comes from a north/north-easterly direction, the towering hotels have been erected in such a way that it’s rarely noticeable when you’re relaxing by the pool or bathing on the beach.
Golf, watersports, and more
Golfers are well catered for and most of the courses offer club hire while popular courses include the Fuerteventura Golf Club, Host to the Spanish Open in 2004, Las Salinas and Las Playitas. Keep in mind your toughest opponent might be the wind which has challenged many a handicap over the years!
The island is perfect for watersports enthusiasts too, while the fishing attracts visitors from all over the world. Kayaking, snorkelling, and diving are particularly popular too. Kids will love the tranquil paradise of Oasis Park, the local zoo. Or for older children, join them on a quad bike on a safari trip around some of the island’s natural wonders including six volcanoes.
Puerto Del Rosario, the island’s capital is also its cultural centre. Exhibitions, plays and concerts are regularly held here so you can combine your shopping visit with some local entertainment as long as you plan it properly in advance.
