You can get a real sense of Birmingham’s industrial legacy by visiting the Black Country Living Museum, one of the finest and largest open-air museums in the United Kingdom. If you’re in town with the kids, why not explore the Thinktank Science Museum and Cadbury World is sure to be a popular choice too.
For later in the evening, you can take in a drink and soak up the atmosphere in the bars and cafés along the canals of the Gas Street Basin. For something to eat, make your way to the Balti Triangle where you’ll find the most authentic Southeast Asian food in Britain. After dinner, catch a performance at the Birmingham Symphony Orchestra in the Symphony Hall, regarded by many as the finest concert hall in Europe.
Shopping & Soccer
For some retail therapy, head to the historic Bullring District. Once the city’s meat and cattle market, it is now a vast shopping area encompassing 140 shops and cafés in a pair of striking glass-covered malls.
Birmingham also loves its soccer or football as it’s known locally and is home to some truly historic clubs in Aston Villa and Birmingham City. If you’re planning to take in a game, make sure you book well in advance as tickets are scarce on match days.
