US Customs & Border Pre-Clearance

Get through US Immigration – in Ireland

If you’re travelling to the United States from Shannon, our full US Preclearance facilities means you can undertake all immigration, customs, and agriculture inspections before you leave, making your arrival in the US easier and faster.

Why use it?

  • Arriving as a domestic passenger allows for a faster process though the airport
  • Shorter connecting times mean you can reach your final destination earlier

How long should it take?

Allow a minimum of 60 minutes before the scheduled departure time of your flight. Please allow adequate time for this process as if you do not report on time it may affect your ability to travel.

Permitted Food Items

There are restrictions on food items that can be brought in to the US. To avoid delays, it’s best that all food items be carried in hand luggage, then declared and presented for inspection at the US Preclearance facility. For full details see www.cbp.gov

Electronic system for Travel Authorisation (ESTA) for travel to the US

If you plan to travel to the US, you are required under the Visa Waiver Programme to apply for travel authorisation online prior to travel. The new electronic system for travel authorisation (ESTA) can be completed at https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov

You will require an approved ESTA prior to boarding. An approved ESTA is valid for up to two years and multiple entries, but is not a guarantee of admissibility.

Multiple ESTA Applications Since August 2012, the ESTA web application accepts multiple applications to be submitted and paid for in one transaction. The facility allows families or groups the ability to input up to 50 ESTA applications and complete the transaction in a single credit card payment. For more information please visit the ESTA website (Electronic System for Travel Authorization).
