Over 800 get night to remember at Shannon Airport Christmas Music Celebration
11 December 2012
Christmas in the Mid-West got the perfect start at Shannon Airport at the weekend as over 800 people turned up for the biggest music celebration of the year in the region. The special Christmas Music Celebration at the airport terminal on Friday night, headlined by the Kilfenora Ceili Band and promoted jointly by Clare FM, Limerick Live95 FM and Tipp FM, drew crowds from across the region for a three hour show that most definitely turned the Christmas dial on.
The event opened with a classic Christmas ensemble from Tipperary’s Silvermines Folk Choir with their Spirit of Christmas performance and a special guest appearance by Ennis based singer & songwriter Kate Purcell before a stirring set from one of the country’s most exciting new trad band Socks in the Frying Pan. Limerick comedian Karl Spain teed up the audience perfectly for what was to follow with his hilarious act before the Kilfenora Céilí Band took to the stage to give a rousing performance and enthral the full-house with their pulsating set.
Led by John Lynch and presented by Garry Shannon, the legendary band were also joined by special guests, two-times Word Champion dancer and former star of both Lord of the Dance and Riverdance, Michael Donnellan and young star dancer Olivia Neylon, as they delighted the audience with a rip roaring performance, more than whetting the appetite for the launch of their new show, Spraoi at Glór, Ennis on Saturday, January 5th.
The event, MC for which was broadcaster Seamus Hennessy, also saw one lucky winner, Mary Smyth, from Bridgetown walk away with two flight tickets to Chicago from Shannon next summer courtesy of United Airlines to mark its new service to the ‘Windy City’, which commences in June.
